Friends of Sugar Creek is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to restoring and protecting Sugar Creek and its tributaries throughout West Central Indiana. Formed by Dean Ford in the summer of 1987, Friends of Sugar Creek has worked persistently to accomplish this task for 30 years. Past and present projects include "Kids, Canoes, and Crinoids" an educational outreach, bi-annual creek clean-ups, a family friendly float trip, and the Sugar Creek Canoe Race sanctioned by USCA. We believe Sugar Creek is a "Hidden Gem" and hope you do too.
We are saddened to share news of the passing of Friends of Sugar Creek Past-President, Aus Brooks. During his impactful time on our board, Aus made the community aware of the existence and danger of the Sugar Creek low-head dam and championed a study to determine the costs and benefits of its removal. As a Professor of Biology at Wabash College, Aus shared the beauty and wonder of Sugar Creek with countless students, and hundreds of volunteers who have donated their time to keep our precious creek clean and safe for generations to come. The Friends of Sugar Creek Fund, in Memory of Dr. Austin Brooks, Jr. has been established at the Montgomery County Community Foundation to memorialize Aus's significant contributions to our community and all the extraordinary things he did for Friends of Sugar Creek.
Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of friends and supporters like you, we appreciate your feedback and suggestions.
